Learn about the technology adoption lifecycle curve from Geoffrey Moore, presenting at UC Berkley Digital Media conference
For disruptive technology start-up founders, marketers and sales leaders, there is a handful of essential reading materials of which Crossing the Chasm by Geoffrey Moore is one. You will want to watch this video if you have not yet read the book. If you have read the book, hearing the author himself present the technology adoption lifecycle will help it further settle in.
Start-up post mortems reveal that a high percentage of failures are due to companies never finding their product-market fit, or failing to cross the chasm from innovators and early adopters to the early majority.
For this reason, I advise every entrepreneur to focus hard on ensuring first that your product has market fit, and second, that you have identified an initial market that you can dominate. Skipping over this exercise will be fatal if the statistics are any indication.
